Crack Routing

Purpose: Crack routing involves the widening and cleaning of existing cracks in the asphalt. The purpose is to create a reservoir or groove along the crack, allowing for better adhesion of the crack filler and improved overall effectiveness of the repair.

Equipment: A specialized machine called a crack router is used for this process. The router has blades that cut a uniform, well-defined channel along the crack.

The hot pour crack filler is heated in a specialized kettle or melter.

Once in a liquid state, it is poured or pumped into the routed cracks in the pavement. The material solidifies as it cools, creating a flexible, rubber-like seal over the crack.
